“It would be right to say that the helicopter's role in saving lives represents one of the most glorious pages in the history of human flight.”
– Igor Sikorsky
The advent of the helicopter and discovery of its life-saving potential are among Sikorsky’s greatest achievements. Having rescued more than 2 million people worldwide since 1945, the helicopter and vertical flight technologies continue to pioneer medical and rescue innovation.
Our exhibit highlights some of history’s greatest air rescues from the perspectives of the brave men and women who take to the skies in the selfless pursuit of saving others.
“If you are in trouble anywhere in the world, an airplane can fly over and drop flowers, but a helicopter can land and save your life.”
